Strand is a thriving seaside setting just 30 minutes from Cape Town, and lies at the other extreme end of the 40km or so stretch of beach which runs from Muizenberg around False Bay. With about 50 000 residents, Strand forms part of the picturesque 'Helderberg Basin' along with neighbours Somerset West and Gordon's Bay.

Strand's main attraction is of course "the strand" or beach - 5 kilometers of beautiful white sand lapped by warm gentle tides. The beach is known to be one of the best and safest bathing areas in the country. On the beachfront, look out for the Dune Park supertube and mini-golf, and the huge tidal pool of Harmony Park. Strand has a wide variety of organised sports, including international - level golf,  tennis, rugby, squash, jukskei, athletics, and of course, watersports: surfing, sailing, power boating, paddle-skiing and board-sailing are all popular here. Strand also has an Olympic sized heated swimming pool which is open all year round.

For the more adventurous, there are numerous nature reserves close by, including the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve with its over 1600 fynbos species. Strand is an ideal base from which to explore Cape Town, the southern Cape Peninsula, the Cape west coast, the Boland and the famous wine estates of Stellenbosch just 25km away (for the "local is lekker' wine lover, there are the nearby Vergelegen and Lourensford wine estates). Neighbouring Somerset West has excellent schools and also medical facilities, with Vergelegen Medi-Clinic just minutes away from Strand. Meanwhile the coastal road past picturesque Gordon's Bay runs through to Hermanus, world famous home of the Whale Watching Festival in late winter.
